Chapter 142: Not Surprised
A few hours later, a few of the Maguses managed to get past the first test. That didn't mean the others failed. Until the day was over, the tests would continue to run. Nonetheless, Linfel gave everyone the exact same treatment, one after another. Only then did he jump to the next part.
"Alright, everyone. Now, for the second test, I want you all to focus on the Magic Channels displayed by the array on your bodies. In the first test, I asked you to use twenty channels alone and then switch. This is very good training for those who want to get better at Magic Energy Control and efficiency. In the second test, however, I want you to do the opposite."
He continued. "I want you all to use almost all your Magic Channels and leave only twenty of them empty. Then, switch to another twenty channels after thirty seconds. This one is even harder since your senses will be clouded by the Magic Energy circulating in most of your Magic Channels."
"Alvin!" Linfel turned to his guinea pi- ahem, friend. "Show to them. They will all watch and use their own magic Energy Senses to see how you switch between channels."
Alvin nodded but had some doubts. "Will the Magic Array intervene with my test again?"
"Of course!" Linfel didn't hold back. "You are already used to this, and that's why your Magic Energy Control is the best in this room. I was able to evaluate that after checking all the candidates. If I give you a test with the same difficulty, wouldn't it be unfair to them who never tried this before?"
"But..." Alvin insisted. "This test is to see if we have the necessary Magic Energy Control. It doesn't really matter if the person is already used to it or not, right? So... even if I am, the test should still be the same so my score can be displayed correctly."
The Maguses around narrowed their eyes but had to admit Alvin's words made sense. It wasn't a contest against each other. There was no need for fairness in this exam since anyone would pass as long as they reached the score. Explore more stories at m-vl_em,pyr
"Stop complaining! Aren't you a man?!" Someone immediately blurted.
"Yes! You deserve a higher difficulty!" and another Magus joined.
"Hmph! That's what you deserve for pulling ahead."
"Just do it!"
It's just that the Maguses didn't say they agreed with Alvin since they didn't like the fact Alvin had Linfel for himself all this while. They wanted Linfel instead, so they were angry. They were more than happy to see him suffer!
"See?" Linfel pointed at everyone. "Will you truly ignore the voice of the people? I'm the supervisor in this test. What I can't do is make an exam easier for someone. However, I can definitely make it harder, and the Ventis Sect will be more than happy to accommodate my wishes."
Alvin felt like crying. Why does he have to go through all of this? "Fine! All of you, watch closely."
Alvin concentrated and immediately circulated his Magic Energy through all his Magic Channels. Then, twenty of those Magic Channels were emptied.
A few seconds later, the Magic Array activated again, and Alvin's body was flooded with Magic Energy. That made it very hard to keep those specific twenty channels empty nonstop while the rest were circulating Magic Energy to the brim.
Alvin gritted his teeth and switched to another twenty channels once the time was right. He continued to do that another four times... until he missed. "Fuck! This is too difficult!"
Linfel shrugged. "That means it is good training. Continue trying. If you don't do it, you won't pass the second test." Right after, he turned to the rest of the Maguses. "Alright, same thing as before. I will help you understand your channels better, and you will have to repeat the process on your own.
Who's first?"
"Me!"
"No, me!"
"I got here first!"
Linfel laughed. "Hahaha! Alright, alright. Same sequence of people as before. Let's start."
This time, Milia was the first one to finish. Linfel didn't use the Magic Array to make the test harder for her since she just started his training recently. She obviously caught a few eyes since she was must faster, though.
Alvin was the second one, once again lying on the ground while gasping for air. Linfel truly didn't know how to take it easy on him.
As for the rest of the Maguses, it wouldn't be before three hours later that the first one managed to do a full rotation on his own. The Magic Array didn't bother him, but he was even more tired than Alvin.
Now, the room had Maguses stuck in the first and second tests. Linfel didn't mind it, though. He kept waiting for another hour, and a total of only six Maguses made it past the second test.
"Okay, everyone. Stop for a moment. I will now explain the third test since we are getting to the end of the day. Even if you haven't got this far, you definitely wanna see it," Linfel explained.
The Maguses all stopped instantly and focused on Linfel.
"The third and last test will focus on Magic Energy efficiency," as soon as he said that, the Magic Array activated, and several orbs appeared in the room, one for each Magus there. "These Magic Energy Receptors have the same number of Magic Channels as your bodies.
I prepared them so that the Magic Energy Channels will only receive Magic Energy from the channels displayed by the array in your own bodies. If you use as much as a single Magic Channel wrong, the receptor will be emptied straight away, and you will have to start from again."
Even the Maguses who reached the third test felt terrified. They only managed to make a single rotation. To fill the receptor, they will probably need to repeat the process hundreds of times.
"Don't worry," Linfel wasn't that hard on them, though. "For the receptor to fill up, you only need to repeat a full rotation ten times. Do that, and you will pass the third test."
Ten times was still hard to imagine, but at least the Maguses could accept it.
There was one exception, though. "Alvin, your orb will need a hundred rotations, and the Magic Array will interfere with your Magic Energy Channels all the time. You can start."
Alvin could already feel the agony... "Why am I not surprised anymore..."
