Chapter 128: Championship
Chapter 128
"Cut! That's a wrap for this scene."
Wen Qingyan quickly pulled himself out of character, while Jing Zejun lowered her head, slowly emerging from the scene's emotions.
Recently, Jing Zejun had been making fewer mistakes. Hearing the director's words, she breathed a sigh of relief - today's filming was finally complete.
Standing in place, Jing Zejun watched as the makeup artist touched up Wen Qingyan's makeup. "Brother Qingyan, I'm heading out soon. Good luck with the rest of your scenes." Wen Qingyan's filming would likely continue until evening.
Wen Qingyan looked at Jing Zejun. "Are you going to watch Jing Yi's race?" He recalled Jing Zejun mentioning that Jing Yi had a car race coming up.
Jing Zejun nodded, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I've already cleared it with the director. I'll change clothes and head out soon."
Seeing her happy expression, Wen Qingyan's lips curved into a smile. "Give Jing Yi my best wishes for victory."
"I'll make sure to pass that along."
The North River Raceway was one of the top racing circuits in the country, hosting many professional races. This time, it was hosting the Supercar Championship Race, another well-known national event.
As the name suggests, drivers compete in specially modified supercars, chosen from brands specified by the competition rules.
An hour before the race, Jing Yi was warming up, though her method seemed out of place. She was going through kickboxing moves, one after another.
From a distance, one could see a tall, muscular young woman moving her arms, her curly ponytail swaying in the breeze.
As her rhythm quickened, Jing Yi's movements became more fluid and powerful. She spun and rotated, her punches and kicks accurately striking imaginary opponents in the air, each impact carrying undeniable force.
Soon, her body began to heat up, sweat trickling down her forehead and along her delicate jawline. She paused, her breathing slowing, her round almond eyes glimmering with determination.
Jing Zeqian watched from the sidelines, instinctively stepping back as if afraid Jing Yi might accidentally hit him.
Jing Yi's kickboxing skills were no joke - he still remembered the pitiful state of that investor.
"Thanks, big brother!" Jing Yi took the towel Jing Zeyou handed her, calmly wiping the sweat from her brow.
Looking at the circle of people around her, including her family and Shen Xi, Jing Yi smiled. "Mom, Dad, you don't need to stay here with me. The race will start soon, you should wait in the lounge to watch."
Besides, in a little while, only team members would be allowed in this area.
Lin Ruiqing looked even more nervous than Jing Yi. The thought of going to rest now was unbearable. "Don't worry about us. Is everything prepared?"
Jing Yi nodded obediently. "Everything's ready." The racing team Jing Zeqian had assembled for her was highly professional, leaving her with almost nothing to worry about.
As time drew near, event staff began ushering non-essential personnel out of the area.
Jing Yi waved to her family, then turned to face her race car, feeling a bit nervous. This was, after all, her first official race.
The coach beside her encouraged Jing Yi to relax. In his view, Jing Yi's skills were more than adequate. The only issue was her rookie status - she lacked the experience and mental fortitude of veteran drivers.
Jing Yi took a deep breath, donned her helmet, and settled into the cockpit. Only ten minutes remained until the race.
Meanwhile, Shen Huaichu stood in the stands, his eyes fixed on Jing Yi's bright red race car, his expression unreadable.
The venue was chaotic - the raceway's announcements, spectator chatter, and staff warnings all blended into a cacophony around Shen Huaichu.
Yet his gaze remained locked on the position of Jing Yi's car.
Shen Huaichu shouldn't have been here. He hated the roaring engines, and in this environment, the agitation in his eyes grew increasingly apparent.
He had seen Jing Yi's expression earlier. She looked a bit nervous, but her excitement was unmistakable.
She must truly love racing.
As the countdown ended, all the race cars shot off the starting line like arrows released from a bow.
But perhaps it was just bad luck - moments after the start, an overeager car collided violently with a white sports car not far from the starting line, sending debris flying.
The spectators were stunned, and the previously lively atmosphere instantly became more chaotic.
A sharp, piercing sound rang out. Shen Huaichu felt his body jolt. He instinctively looked towards Jing Yi's red race car and Gu Lin's black and white car, both of which had already sped far ahead.
Elsewhere, Jing Zeqian, who had just breathed a sigh of relief, spotted Shen Huaichu in the distance.
He furrowed his brow. "Brother, is that Shen Huaichu?" Jing Zeyou looked over, surprised. "It is. Why is he here?"
Jing Zeqian remembered that Gu Lin was also a participant in this race. "Is he here to watch Gu Lin race?" Jing Zeyou observed the distant figure, his deep eyes hiding curiosity.
Here to watch Gu Lin race?
Maybe, but Jing Zeyou felt that Shen Huaichu's intentions weren't so simple. Besides, as far as he knew, Shen Huaichu didn't enjoy these kinds of racing events.
Jing Zeqian crossed his arms. "He couldn't possibly be here for Jing Yi, right?" His tone was dismissive as his gaze returned to following Jing Yi's red race car.
Jing Zeyou glanced at him and let out a soft sigh.
Meanwhile, Shen Huaichu, the subject of the brothers' discussion, was slowly making his way down from the stands towards the exit.
He seemed to walk with difficulty, his brows furrowed and eyes tightly shut. The image of the crashing vehicles pierced his mind like countless sharp needles, causing an intense headache.
Memories of his troubled youth came flooding back. Shen Huaichu's breathing became rapid and shallow. His chest felt constricted, as if bound by invisible ropes, making it hard to breathe. He seemed trapped in his own terrifying recollections.
At the same time, Jing Yi, who had also heard the crash, felt her heart skip a beat. She quickly regained her composure, determined not to let the accident behind her affect her performance.
Several cars ahead of her stubbornly held their positions. Jing Yi didn't rush - the race had only just begun, and she still had plenty of opportunities.
In the stands, the Jing family was equally tense. The earlier accident had startled them, but fortunately, Jing Yi's car had already sped ahead, unaffected by the collision behind her.
"Zeqian, are those two drivers alright?" Lin Ruiqing asked, concerned.
After the accident, race officials and team personnel quickly removed the vehicles and drivers from the track.
Lin Ruiqing could only see the staff helping the two drivers away, unable to tell the extent of their injuries.
In contrast, Jing Zeqian wasn't as worried. He was aware of the protection provided by the modified race cars.
"Mom, don't worry. These race cars are specially modified to maximize driver safety."
