Chapter 110: Not always sunshine and rainbows!
Though the howl was majestic and loud, the old man wasn't really fazed by it at all. Oscar's ears hurt a little, but he didn't let it show on his face. Since they had left this wolf behind to delay them, then naturally the old man would show it the utmost of his care! Ark didn't want the old man to take the initiative and was the first to attack.
Even though he had numerous elements at his disposal, Ark had an idea. Earlier when he had activated his skill, his light mana had purified the old man's fog, which taught Ark an important factor in this fight, this old man seemed to be weak against the light element, or at the very least his attacks were.
Since that was the case, Ark didn't dare hold himself back by spending mana on attacks containing elements that had a worse effect. A spear of holy light condensed in front of him, before propelling itself forward at dangerous speeds. The old man only sneered when he saw the attack and lightly slapped it when it arrived in front of him.
The spear was sent flying by his simple slap, but before it could fly more than a meter, the spear exploded, all its energy discharging onto the old man. Though he hadn't expected the attack, it only made his skin sizzle a little, almost as if he was burning.
The old man was suddenly overtaken by a seriously dangerous feeling, and he took half a step forward instinctively. A slash was heard, and a slim but long streak of blood started to sizzle along his back, shredding his shirt a fair amount.
The man was underestimating Ark from the start, and his way of attacking was a little different compared to most people he had killed, so he was a little taken aback. The sword also exploded into burning light, but this time around, the man had learned from his lesson.
Still blinded by the light, the old man had no way to see Ark approaching rapidly. Oscar could see everything that was happening clearly since he had backed away from the fight earlier, but upon seeing Ark charge forward, he only sneered. He didn't say a word to the old man, and in just a second, Ark had already lunged at the old man, biting fiercely into his waist.
His teeth easily sank their way into the old man's frail body, it was fairly obvious that he was a mage, but Ark had still expected some slight resistance.
Instead of hearing the old man's pained voice, Ark was assaulted by a disgusting taste filling his mouth. Before he could really react at all, the old man started to laugh sinisterly.
"Kukukuku, how naive, did you really think that something like that would work? Well, you've got another thing coming!" The man was fairly small in comparison to Ark, but he still managed to land a punch in Ark's gut. A weird screech that seemed like it came from the deepest depths of hell resounded throughout the forest as the small man connected his punch.
Ark wasn't sent flying or anything, he only let go of the man, and staggered his way backwards. When he bit into the man earlier, he could feel his entire body starting to numb a little, and as he felt the punch that connected with his guts, Ark knew something was wrong. His body was strong, very strong, as was his magic for that matter, but something was different right now.
That punch the man used earlier didn't coincide with any elements Ark had ever heard of, and he was sure of one thing, he had been poisoned.
The old man didn't even flinch when he bit into him, and when he did, weird sensations started to take control over his body. He used to have a lot of control of his body, but now, it felt like some foreign object, a foreign object filled with lead at that. The energy that entered his body through the old man's fist was currently on a rampage, wreaking havoc to everything in its sight.
As Ark knew that he didn't have much time before he would be completely devoid of any strength, he decided to use one last attack, making use of his entire mana reserve in the process.
Ark could almost feel his rage starting to cloud his judgement, but at this point, he didn't care less, instead, he started to feed it even more, and gathered massive amounts of momentum.
The old man and the prince could feel Ark's determination and rage and decided to back off a little, especially when they saw his large momentum gathering. Even though they were cautious, they still managed to underestimate him a little!
The once clear sky started to get cloudy all of a sudden. The dark grey clouds blotted the sky, and heavy rain started to pour. The clouds started twisting and contorting, before breaking out into a large hurricane. The fierce wind gathered around Ark and the two men, before wreaking absolute havoc. Small bolts of lightning also struck with ferocity toward the old man and Oscar.
Though they expected a large attack, they were a little disappointed, the old man's magic could easily contend with this.
The raging stormclouds suddenly parted, only to reveal a ginormous radiant sword descending from the skies. This was Ark's parting gift, as he slumped down on the ground in the next moment, falling into deep unconsciousness. The old man's facial expression soured, but there was no way he could avoid this.
The large radiant sword was blotting out an entire part of the sky, it almost looked like god was pissed off, and decided to enact divine punishment.
Underneath a blood-red barrier made out of some weird mana, the old man and the prince watched as the sword was descending from the sky. A moment or so later, the sword hit the ground. A deafening explosion that would've pummeled the eardrums of anyone who heard it occurred, raising debris and dust from the ground all around the forest.
Ark was pretty much untouched by everything that went on around him, but the same could not be said about the old man and Oscar.
Though the strength of the barrier was extraordinary, it didn't have enough strength to withstand this attack, and after a while, the barrier cracked open like an egg. Both of them had to withstand the attack on their own since the barrier cracked, and Oscar was soon on his knees. The old man had no problem with withstanding this attack, but Oscar was another story.
Even though the attack was weakened after the barrier absorbed some of the power contained within it, it was still enough to overwhelm him.
A line of blood extended all the way from the left side of his forehead, and down to the right side of his jaw, leaving a diagonal wound across his face. Oscar howled in pain like there was no tomorrow, his left eye had been completely blinded! The pain he was experiencing was searing, and he could barely keep his consciousness. He didn't calm down in the slightest as time passed.
The pain alleviated a little bit, but the fact that he would be blind on his left eye was devastating, and so was the fact that he had been disfigured by that attack.
