Talent Awakening: Draconic Overlord Of The Apocalypse

Chapter 166: It's Time

Chapter 166: It's Time

It had been a few days since Spade's rather intense clash with the Berserkers. They were able to pull themselves together and pushed on, although they lagged behind in third place, with the Reapers in second and the White Comets in first.

The event was slowly approaching its last day, its completion, and so all the teams couldn't help but give their best in hopes of pulling off a miracle. The pressure was on the White Comets to solidify their spot.

But unlike the other teams, the Reapers, though placed second, had lessened their efforts. They had a substantial twenty thousand point gap between them and the Berserkers, and many believed that was why they didn't stress themselves.

It was true and also false. They didn't bother too much because they had a far larger score, yes, but the reason they weren't putting effort into pushing forward was entirely different.

It was now another night with the Reapers.

The moon hung high in the inky sky of the wastelands, casting a soft silver glow over the desolate landscape.

The air was thick with the remnants of the recent battle, the stench of monster blood mixing with the dry desert wind.

The Reapers stood in the middle of a field of carnage, their breathing heavy as they surveyed the fallen horde of monsters they had just vanquished.

The pick-up team was busily at work. Their leader, a grizzled blue haired, red eyed man named Lucas, approached Kael. Lucas had a reputation for being efficient and discreet, qualities Kael highly valued.

"Things aren't looking good, Kael," Lucas said, his voice low but clear. He wiped sweat from his brow.

"We've harvested everything valuable, and there are no signs of any more threats in the immediate vicinity. But it doesn't look like this would help in securing the top spot."

True, due to the fact the Reapers had slowed down, the White Comets, with the aid of Alister and his dragons, had not only surpassed them but their scores had nearly tripled that of the Reapers.

Kael nodded, although a satisfied smirk was spreading on his face beneath his mask.

"Excellent work regardless, Lucas. We don't really have a choice but to keep this momentum going. We can't completely give up because of that, else the Berserkers could just pull one over on us."

"And besides, who knows, the White Comets might not be tye ones at the top in the end." Lucas chuckled, "Seems you have a point."

"By the way," Kael suddenly narrowed his eyes dangerously as he asked, "did you get that special delivery I asked for?"

"Of course," Lucas replied, narrowing his own eyes as well. He reached into his bag and pulled out a fairly large black food box. He handed it to Kael with a knowing look.

"I got your special meal delivery, as requested."

Kael took the box, his expression giving nothing away. To anyone watching the live stream, it looked like a simple exchange, perhaps a supply of rations. But both men knew the true nature of the item.

"Appreciate it, Lucas," Kael said, his voice that gave no hint of the box's actual contents. "I'll make sure to enjoy the meal."

Lucas gave a small nod and returned to his team, who were finishing up the last of the harvesting. Kael glanced around, then signaled to his team. They began to dismantle their temporary encampment, preparing to move to a more secure location for the night.

As the pick-up team departed, Kael called a brief meeting with his team. The Reapers gathered around him, all turning off their body cam feeds, their expressions all sinister.

"Alright, listen up," Kael began. "This," he said, holding up the black food box, "is where our little show will be put on the road. It's a signal jammer. We'll be using it to disrupt the White Comets' communications towards the end of the event."

Kael looked around at his team, the flickering blue light of their control panel reflecting off their focused faces. He held up the black box for everyone to see, his expression excited.

"Listen up, Reapers," Kael began.

"We're going to split up. Some of us will take this signal jammer and plant it a few kilometers ahead of the White Comets' path. We'll disrupt their communications and make sure they can't coordinate effectively."

He then produced a small vial filled with a strange, glowing substance. It seemed to pulse with an strange orange light.

"And this," he said, holding up the vial, "is something special. It's bait that will attract a sandworm. For those who don't know," he said, looking at Kai, "...sandworms are extremely dangerous creatures that live beneath the desert sands. We'll use this to draw one to the White Comets' location while their signals are jammed. The chaos will be enough to take them out."

He looked around the circle.

"Rex, Jin, and Mira, you three will handle planting the jammer. Make sure it's well-hidden and that it covers a wide area. Aria, you'll be with me. We'll handle the sandworm bait and make sure it gets to the right spot. Kai," he paused, meeting Kai's eager gaze.

"you'll be tye one securing Alister. Once the jammer is in place, and the sandworm comes out to real chaos, you'll teleport to Alister, teleport back with him, and then."

He grined, "You can have your fun."

Kael's eyes narrowed. "We have to act fast. Our cameras can't be off for too long, or the commentators will start to suspect something. We have a small window to get this done."

The team nodded, all with smiles on their faces. They began to gather their gear so they could quickly make their move.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

As they prepared to move out, Kai's eyes flashed with excitement. He couldn't hide the sinister smile that spread across his face.

"Soon, Alister," Kai muttered, placing his last hand over his left eye, his voice filled with anticipation. "I'll rip you limb from limb... and let your remains be eaten up by monsters. I

can't wait."

Kael gave a final nod to his team. "Let's move out, Reapers. Time to make our mark, and secure that top spot."

The team split into their designated roles, moving swiftly and silently through the wasteland night, ready to put their plan into action.
