Chapter 102 Second Guessing.
Apart from these two reasons is the difficulty of the mission. It won't be easy to get Black Mantis because he holes himself in his establishment without leaving. His establishment is also heavily guarded and fortified because he has to meet his customers physically to administer the dose to them.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
They have to prepare for the possibility of attacks on his person. It is a matter of fact that there have been frequent attacks against the gang from both their enemies, the police force, villains, supers, and their bitter customers. All of these require heavy protection for Black Mantis to keep his life.
He chuckled as he thought about what had happened with the Purple Drag gang earlier in the day. The raid is something he would have expected to happen to the Black Mantis gang, not the gang of partying crossdressers.
He thought to himself with a smirk, "Maybe I should take a job to kill the man. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would be willing to pay heavily for his death."
It is only a thought. He is not willing to do something like that if he will be replacing him. But that aside, he was beginning to second-guess his choice in the Black Mantis. The trouble they were just wasn't worth it.
"Maybe I should try another gang. Heavenly Blister is not so bad. Even Red Dream is better than the trouble I will face with Black Mantis."
While he was having second thoughts, Fire Rose was having a bad day. And when she is having a bad day, she burns stuff. That's why three Supers with the ability to produce water were surrounding her and putting out the sparks that jump from her hair and body into the surroundings as she roared.
She was really screaming. Her voice was raised in anger as he asked, "What do you mean Dumont didn't make it? He has to make it. I borrowed him from another squad. I have to return him."
The people she was screaming at were looking down at their feet. They were not afraid for their lives since they knew that Fire Rose wouldn't hurt them. But they were ashamed because they had failed her.
Fire Rose is actually a very nice person. She is kind, supportive, and a true role model. It is just that she finds it difficult to speak calmly when she is agitated, and she gets agitated easily, so she is always screaming.
That personality flaw aside, this moment is a worthy reason for her to be agitated. After all, many of them just died. Most painful of all was Dumont, who had a lot of potential.
They tried to calm Fire Rose down, but she was having none of it. She had too many reasons to be agitated for her to calm down.
The first reason was that many people had died on her raid. The second reason is that Dumont had died. The third is that Dumont was borrowed. She had brought him to deal with Purple Cloud's bodyguard, Ray.
His ability to damage forcefields and other forms of defense systems was critical to the success of their mission. But it turned out that they didn't need him to kill Purple Cloud.
So the tedious and expensive process needed to borrow and then transport him to New London had gone to waste. What's more is that not only was he useless, he has died and now put her in a lot of trouble.
This brings her to the fourth reason why she is agitated. She can't bear the trouble that his death will bring because she is at a critical point where she needs everything to go well for her.
The Justice League is a large organization throughout the territory of the surviving humans. She is not the strongest member in New London, but she was lucky enough to get a tip that led her to the Patriarch's lair.
There are other members that are stronger than her, including her direct superior and her other squad captains, but only she managed to discover the Patriarch's lair and even succeeded in killing him.
Many of her colleagues don't believe that she was able to do it. Many of them think she was lucky, but that didn't stop the benefits of her achievement. After all, as a hero, when people think they are strong, they will become strong.
That achievement made her popular. This meant that she became stronger. Her career was on the rise as she was slated to replace the director of the Justice League's activities in New London. All she needed was another achievement to clinch the promotion.
That's why she went after the Black Market. Their human trafficking fit well with her achievement of killing the Patriarch. She was having a lot of success too. In fact, the raid could be considered a success despite the casualties she incurred. But Dumont's death has set half of all of that back.
Many of her colleagues will come after her. The only good thing she has to count on is the opinion of the masses. As long as they support her, she will continue to rise. It is just that things will be difficult for her in the Justice League.
Eventually, she calmed down. She instructed them with a roar, "Get the TV immediately. I want to have an interview about the raid."
Her subordinates ran off to prepare for the interview. They left her fuming with the three water supers watching for errant sparks.
She thought to herself, "I can still salvage this. The people love me."
Every hero knows that the masses are easy to fool. This is something that has been confirmed before the advent of the tower of destiny when politicians lied and deceived the people. That's why heroes care about their image.
Many of them become movie stars or streaming stars in order to make themselves look good for the public. She can't do any of those because she doesn't have the kind of talent to be an actress or a singer, and she clearly doesn't have the personality or patience to be a streamer.
What do you think?
