Chapter 95: The one behind it all
Damien's knees buckled as he tumbled on his arse. He had to put his head between his knees to stop himself from hurling whatever that was trying to climb up his throat.
Xavier hopped down the carriage with Levy leaning against him.
He looked extremely pale as he covered his mouth and spoke in a muffled voice, "Now, can I know why —ark—why were we made to sit in the carriage of damnation?"
"Ah, yes. I haven't told you. Did I?" Wistoria turned to look at the three men. A frown settled between her brows. "A few weeks ago, I went to the regions that are under the control of the Kiem family. Originally, I went undercover only to see what that family had been doing after taking charge of those regions.
But…"
She paused and turned to look behind her with a frown on her face as she searched for something.
"Lady Wistoria, what's the matter?" Seeing that she was staring behind her shoulders, Xavier asked. At the same time, he also peered in the direction where Wistoria was looking. However, he did not see anything.
"It's nothing," Wistoria turned to look at the three men again. "Anyway, when I was working undercover, I had to stop by a bar where the beastmen gather in the city of Cyrovnia."
The sound of waves crashing against the winds echoed on the silent seashore. As Wistoria recalled the happenings of that day,
"And among those beastmen, there were some who drew my attention."

A few weeks ago,
'Hey! Where is my roasted orc leg?'
Inside a raucous bar, among the many beastmen who were sitting inside the large hall, a gigantic man turned and shouted at the barmaid who was supposed to be serving them.
Wistoria, who was calmly sitting in a corner with her hair dyed red, looked at the man who had shouted.
He was sitting on a round table, with four other men.
'For the lord's sake, move it,' the man roared, his chair leaning on two legs.
'I –I am sorry,' the barmaid apologised as she rushed to the bar counter to bring the order of these men.
The man spat on the ground and yelled at the woman, 'Hah, do you think your apology is going to fill my stomach?'
The barmaid lowered her head, and so did the people behind the counter.
'Damn it, these idiots,' the man snapped harshly as he glared at the woman. 'We worked so hard to find that music box and yet it's of no use to us! That damned seal! No matter what we do, it's not coming off!'
The man banged his fists on the table as he glared harshly.
'Idiot, will you pipe down,' the man next to him snapped at him. His hair was tied with a bandana as he took out the cigar from his mouth. 'Do you want to announce it to the world?'
'Who even knows about that music box?' The mountain of a man sneered as the barmaid walked over to their table and then placed the large wooden flasks on the table.
'Even if no one knows about Doomsday, they will get suspicious if you keep yelling like that,' said the man with a bandana.
'He is right, you are too loud.'
'Damn it,' upon being scolded by his friends, the man stopped yelling.
'Why are you in a hurry?' the man with the crew cut spoke. He raised the flagon to his lips and sipped on the beer that was filled to the brim. 'I have thought of a way to undo the seal on it.'
'What really?'
'That's our leader for you!'
Wistoria sighed as she finished relaying the information to the rest of the team.
"Doomsday? That music box sure has a rather terrifying name," Levy remarked. "But why did you have to drag us here because of that?"
Wistoria turned and looked at the man with a sigh before saying, "It seems like you have no idea about it."
Upon hearing her words Levy frowned and asked, "Is this something that I need to pay attention to?"
"Hah, this is something that even I know," Damien chimed from the side while squatting on the ground. Levy whipped his head and glared at him.
"Great job. It seems like you are not exactly an idiot," the man snapped at him and Damien got to his feet slowly.
"Alright," Wistoria stopped the two in a clipped tone. "There is no need for so many unnecessary fights." She turned to look at Levy before saying to him, "All you need to know is that this music box is bad news and in the hands of the wrong people."
"I believe you have heard of Andres, right?"
"Andres? Are you talking about that man who was the leader of the assassination guild three years ago?" Levy said. He did seem to have heard about this man. If he was not wrong, this man was the master of an assassination guild a few years ago but he was soon caught.
After all, taking a bounty and killing people was not legal in the Brystoria.
"Wasn't he caught?"
"I thought the same thing," Wistoria spoke in a grim voice. "That's why I did not recognise that man. After all, the council had disbanded his guild ages ago and he along with his guildmates were expelled by the council as well. Followed by an arrest for all the crimes that they have committed; if everything that was relayed to the commoners was right then these people should have been locked up."
"But they aren't," Damien pointed out.
"You are right," Wistoria glanced at him and nodded. "This means that these people escaped from the prison, and no one knows a thing about their escape. Or —they might have been illegally released."
The three men turned silent before Damien put forth the sticky question that no one wanted to ask,
"You mean to say that the royal family released them?"
Wistoria neither agreed nor denied. She simply blinked her eyes and stated in a cold voice, "We cannot be clear about it. The only thing we can hope for is, that the Royal family is not behind this."
Because if Emiliano was the one behind these moves, then the matter would never end at just the deaths of a few dark guild members.
