Chapter 57 [Assets Calculated]
57 [Assets Calculated]
I woke up to see the familiar screen in front of me.
[Would you like to receive your rewards now?]
[Yes / No] I waved away the screen, grinning to myself. I'd done it. I'd stamped Quinn Adams. Even if the deal fell through, I won't lose Cooper Real Estate.
My eyes turned to the empty bed beside me. Where was Quinn?
I sat up with a yawn, stretching. I was still naked under the cover.
After our rather eventful night, I'd gotten the notification to receive the rewards then but with the nausea and vomiting warning, I wouldn't be taking any chances.
I glanced at the bedside table, grabbing my phone off it. It was seven thirty in the morning.
"You're up." Quinn walked out of the bathroom, a towel around her body with another binding her hair.
"Good morning." I grinned at her.
"Good morning." She smiled at me, picked up her clothes and began dressing in front of the mirror.
I watched her, a smile playing on my lips. I wouldn't be averse to this being a regular thing.
She noticed me staring in the mirror and smiled that smile women gave that made you know something was up.
I wiped the smile off my face, sitting up straight. "What's wrong?" I asked.
She finished dressing before answering. "My mother has different set of rules." She began. "Some I agree with and some that I don't."
I listened, not saying anything.
"And while I never did understand the need for some, there's one I can understand now." She paused. "Never mix business with pleasure."
Ah. So that was what this was about.
"While I won't say last night was a mistake, it definitely wasn't," she smiled at me, "it can't happen again."
I nodded. "I understand."
Quinn smiled sadly at me. "While I'm grateful to you, Nico, for making me realize I had to take control of my own life, this is my life we're talking about."
"I have just this one chance to make sure my future is set. To make sure I have a sky large enough to fly in." She said. "I can't screw this up by sleeping with my business partner. I can't screw this up by allowing space for personal or irrational feelings to interfere with it."
I nodded, slipping off the bed and pulling on my underwear. "I understand, Quinn. I'm happy that you've decided to place this much trust in me and I'll make sure to not betray your trust." I said sincerely.
This was good for me. With Mila, I'd had to distance myself to avoid her catching feelings but with Quinn drawing the line, it was perfect.
I'm already searching for the third stamp holder. I didn't have to be hampered by a relationship.
"Thank you, Nico." Quinn said with a soft smile. "It's time for me to go."
"Err..." I looked around, picking up my trousers. "Let me see you off."
I wore them as fast as I could, hopping to the side to pick up my shirt. I wore that too and followed her downstairs.
As we passed the living room, I saw the now empty bottle of champagne she'd brought and the glasses sitting beside it. We'd abandoned them to do the deed.
We paused when we got to the door. She turned to look at me. "Thank you, Nico."
"Yeah, no problem." I smiled. "See you later, I guess."
She nodded. We'll be signing the agreement this afternoon at the Sunset Inn office I'd rented downtown.
We were a real business now and had our own staff. I couldn't rely on Gray for everything.
"Yeah, see you." She gave me a small wave and walked to her car. I watched as she drove off into the distance. When she was gone, I closed the door and walked back inside. The first thing I did was throw a fist pump.
"Fuck, yeah!"
After receiving my rewards and signing the documents, I'll be closer to being a billionaire and more importantly, closer to competing with my step sisters.
"Thank you, Quinn." I grinned to myself. "You're a lifesaver."
After cheering, I went to the living room, clearing away the mess. Curiously, I pulled out my phone to check how expensive the champagne was and almost stumbled.
The Louis Roederer Cristal Orfevres Gold Medallion champagne. Almost twenty thousand for a bottle?
Man... the rich were something else.
Well, very soon, I'll also classify as the rich so it was high time I became used to this. Ordering expensive wine and eating overpriced food just because I can. Besides, everyone will say you're not just eating the food but enjoying the exclusivity and quality of service.
Wasn't that what I was selling with Sunset Inn? Whatever the matter was, it was time for me to receive my reward.
I took my seat and called up the screen back in front of me.
[Would you like to receive your rewards now?]
[Yes / No] I clicked yes and the system began its work.
[Calculating reward...]
That was when the headache arrived. I'd braced myself for it but it was somehow worse than the previous one.
Then the dizziness hit. My vision swam and I leaned back in the chair, closing my eyes. It turned out to be a big mistake.
The bile rose and it took me a few precious seconds to rise out of my chair. I scrambled towards the bathroom on the ground floor and the dizziness chose that moment to go crazy.
I stumbled, falling to my knees. Then, I vomited all over the floor.
"Fuck." I moaned in pain. I should've done this in the bathroom.
[Assets Calculated.]
I stumbled away from my own vomit, the headache and dizziness slowly disappearing. I'll have to clean this up later.
[Liabilities Calculated.]
[Debts Calculated.]
I crossed my fingers, hoping Quinn didn't have a large enough debt. She wouldn't have taken on a huge debt to finance this deal, would she?
[Net Worth: minus 150 million dollars.]
[Reward: minus 1.5 billion dollars.]
"Ah, shit." n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
In order to properly explain what just happened, I am adding this note. Quinn has a net worth of $50 million. And she has a debt of $200 million. She however haven't received the money, only the debt. Therefore, Quinn's net worth was calculated as minus $150 million and multiplied ten times, that's minus $1.5 billion.
