Chapter 105: Arrogance is bad for you!
Before anyone could react, the arrow slammed straight into the thin water barrier. With a resounding boom, the two collided. Seeing his barrier withstand the arrow, Eldor gloated a little, since he could withstand her arrows with magic, what would she be able to do? Sure, the arrow left a jarring hole in the barrier, but he didn't think much of it. Unfortunately, his arrogance would be his downfall.
Even though the sound of the arrow zooming through the air should've disappeared, it was still present.
Eldor was surprised, but as he looked around, he noticed a familiar sight heading straight for him! Another arrow that Evellia released when he wasn't looking was on a straight course toward him, and due to the hole in his barrier, nothing was stopping it from reaching its target. Before Eldor could do anything to his barrier, the arrow had already gone through it.
"Puchi!"
His body had already been fairly weak, and the strength of the arrow was way beyond what his defence would handle. A fairly big hole appeared on his left shoulder, whereas the arrow kept flying even after penetrating him. Blood gushed out incessantly and Eldor fell backwards on his behind.
The crowd was just as stunned as he was, but when they were about to cheer, they were abruptly interrupted by Eldor howling frantically in pain. Evellia was a little stunned by his behaviour, but the small amounts of disdain she had towards him just increased as she walked off the stage.
Everyone else was also a little surprised by his screaming and yelling, he could already be considered an adult, and screaming like this when you had already fought your way to the top ten of the country was a little... Ark had been watching the match closely, and he approved of Evellia's tactics, they were reminiscent of something he would do, while he was a little taken aback by Eldor.
Ark had trashed Allastir way worse, but he barely said a thing, and just took it in silence.
Screaming in pain wasn't something weird, but doing so when you were only injured in the shoulder, and by such a clean wound as well, it was a little disgraceful. Eldor's father was a court-magician of the country, and he was also spectating the fight from the crowd. When he saw the antics of his son, his face couldn't help but flush in embarrassment. This son of his was a little too shameful.
When Evellia was on the edge of the stage, she turned around and looked at Eldor. He still screamed at the top of his lungs, and the tournament's healers were already on the way to him. "Next time don't look down on people, arrogance is bad for you!"
After saying what she wanted to say, she only retreated to where the other participants were holed up and sat down to rest. Like this, the day continued, Ark's second match wasn't anything to talk about, considering how they instantly surrendered when they went on stage, there was barely anyone here who could consider themselves his match after seeing what he did to Allastir.
After a little while, the semifinals finally arrived. Ark didn't have a lot of time left in his human form, but fortunately, the finals were going to be held the next day. Ark felt that it was a little weird, but he didn't care enough to really think about it.
The first match of the semifinals was between Evellia and another woman, a magician at that. When they faced off against each other, a hint of trepidation could be seen on the young magicians face. She gave it her all though, and instead of being defensive like Eldor had been, she decided to go on the offensive.
Since she was a fire magician, she engulfed a large part of the arene in what could only be called an inferno. Evellia was still a tad bit too strong though, and after sending an arrow straight through the sea of flames, her opponent was defeated.
The next match of the agenda was naturally Ark's match. As he passed by Evellia when she was on the way down from the stage, he could feel her burning fighting spirit. He chuckled a little, it seemed like he wasn't the only one that was confident in his win. His opponent in the semifinals was a mysterious youth called Christoph.
This Cristoph entered the stage while Ark was still walking and his aura was a little odd. When they faced off against each other, Ark had a feeling that something about his opponent was a little off.
When the piece of white fabric once again hit the floor, the fight instantly erupted in full flair. With a long black rapier in his hand, Cristoph charged in the second the battle started. Even though he was a little surprised, Ark decided to fight this a little differently. When Cristoph was only ten meters away from Ark, a wall made out of Earth suddenly erected out of the stage.
He had to stop abruptly to not run into the wall face-first and embarrass himself, but just when he stopped, he noticed a hammer made out of fire slam down from above his head.
Narrowly escaping it backwards, Christoph didn't get a lot of time to react when a holy spear suddenly penetrated the wall of earth and headed straight for him. Due to his continuous movement and some surprise, Christoph didn't manage to dodge the spear completely in time. He jumped sideways, but his right leg was still impaled by the spear, leaving a large bloody hole in his leg.
The crowd hissed as they saw these developments, this Silver Gaze had no idea how to go easy on someone!
Ark didn't let him off that easily though since he knew that a wound on his leg wasn't enough to net Ark the win, especially considering how Christoph didn't seem to be too fazed by the pain. His mobility was drastically lowered through with one of his legs incapacitated, and Ark had free control of the battle.
With a wave of his arm, numerous blades made out of wind chased after Christoph and he tried his hardest to defend himself. Luckily for him, his swordsmanship was very good and he managed to deflect every attack with the help of his rapier, no matter how swift the wind blades were, his sword was even swifter!
Unfortunately, his opponent was Ark, and Ark didn't want to waste too much time here. While he was busy with the wind blades, numerous spikes made out of earth sprung out of the earth underneath his feet. Concentrating on numerous things at the same time was immeasurably hard, and since Christoph was already incapacitated, he didn't have the time to doge some of the spikes.
Ark wasn't too cruel, and he only let them penetrate Christoph's other leg, making him almost completely immovable, hoping he would surrender out of his own volition.
Christoph didn't intend to surrender at all though, and he only let his burning gaze speak for itself when he looked at Ark. Ark sighed a little. Did he really have to make it so hard on himself? Since he wouldn't surrender easily, Ark went all-out for once.
He disappeared with the wind and appeared a second later right in front of Christoph. Christoph's face contorted in disbelief, but before he could get his defence up, Ark's fist had already made contact with his guts, and he was sent flying.
Ark had used his full bodily strength in that punch, and when Christoph was whistling through the air, he even urged the wind to make him fly even faster. The people that sat in the crowd were scared out of their wits seeing this young man flying straight towards them at such a high speed.
Before he collided with the crowd, a giant wall made out of earth erupted from the ground. Christoph slammed straight into it, making it crumble in less than a second. Christoph was buried underneath a layer of earth and rocks as a result, his fate remaining unknown to any outsiders...
